Critically Acclaimed Romantic Suspense Novel

Kallie Andreas is a mystery, even to herself.

Seven years ago Kallie woke up in a New York City museum, injured and traumatized. Alone and unclaimed.

Despite her shattered memories, she's made a quiet life for herself as museum curator. But then the blackouts start. Lost time, stranded in terrifying danger, frantic visions that can't be real.

And now Kallie's journal has morphed into something else... What began as a romantic fairy tale becomes the tale of a woman plunged into crisis in the ancient misty islands of Minoan Greece, home to myth and legend.

When a mysterious billionaire invites Kallie to scour the black market with him for the most valuable of all Minoan treasures, Kallie can't resist. Dimitri is wealthy, charming and good-looking, but she's not interested--not in someone who's clearly hiding secrets of his own.

Meanwhile, Kallie's memories are bleeding through and her journal has turned violent. She's teetering on the verge of a breakthrough, but what devastating truth has she been suppressing?

Didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd hoped. I found the beginning confusing and slow and the romance was not developed. The traveling descriptions were also too much - I got in the habit of skimming for dialogue and the ending was anti-climactic and a bit nonsensical - they went through all that why? Also, the religious/philosophical talk was very vague - constant hints but nothing ever spelled out. It felt designed to manipulate the reader to introspect and I was never sure what the author was trying to say. Many references seemed to hint at the crucifixion and Christian rebirth but in ways that were beyond confusing. The historical aspects, however, were very interesting. I didn't know much about the history of the island so that part was neat.

Awakening edition by Tracy Higley Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

This book was not really what I expected but I enjoyed it none the less. It kept me interested all the way thru and though I had the plot figured out I enjoyed reading how it played out. It got a little bogged down at times and on several occasions I found myself skimming. The lack of sex scenes was a plus. They were not missed. I was confused by the religious talk. What was the author trying to say? All religions are good as long as you believe? As long as you are "spiritual" it is enough? As a Christian I had a problem with these themes. It wasn't so overdone it was a distraction, but I didn't see how it added to the plot, or what the purpose was. It was just thrown in there at odd times.
Age Appropriate For 15 and up for violence, romance, and weirdness
Best for Ages 18 and up

It’s been over a month since I read this book and I’m still not sure what to think about it. It was vivid, kept my attention from beginning to end, and yet was so different anything I have read. The faith element that is normally predominate in Higley’s writing was missing, yet still felt like it was there. It is a hard book to describe.

The characters were all vivid, not one lay flat on the page. All of them are deep, wide, and complex, even the ones that are seen briefly. It’s one of the things that gave the story such a draw. I felt like I would know Kallie, Dimitri, and the rest if I met them.

Kallie’s inability to remember her past is done well. She is both desperate to find out who she was and afraid of what she might have been. I stayed up late to finish this book because I had to read the end. Honestly, not too far into the book, I figured out what it took the characters most of the rest of the book to discover, but I still couldn’t help but keep reading.

The settings, all around the globe, were realistic and vivid. I felt almost as if I had been on vacation to Egypt and Italy by the time the book had been finished. Higley did a great job of describing the locations.

The things that I didn’t like about this book As I stated before, I missed Higley’s strong faith element that is so key in her other books. The hints in this book were not what I have come to expect from her. However, I’ll say that perhaps people who dislike religion in their books will enjoy getting to read Higley’s work. They would find little if anything to offend them in here.

There were also a few brief mentions of nudity (non-sexual) within the pages. I honestly found them unnecessary and did nothing to add to the story. However, because it was not used in a sexual manner and not overly described, it was easy to also ignore.

The research that was put into this book seemed stellar. I felt like I came away with an education, although I didn’t check the facts. I loved the blending of history and myth in the story.

Overall I found this a well-written, highly entertaining book. I’m still not sure whether I love it or think it is odd.
This is my kind of book! Tracy Higley has blended the ancient past with the present in a tale that has me turning pages far into the night.Who is Kallie? I'm drawn in by the mystery of a past she can't remember. Her journal entries plunge me into an ancient world that has just as much mystery and intrigue as the present one. Higley is a master storyteller, and "Awakening" has to be one of her best.
I became hooked on Tracy's books when I read "Fallen From Babel," then "Retrovirus," then "Marduk's Tablet," then . . . you get the idea. Description is deftly woven into the story, so I feel I'm right there, in the middle of each scene. Her research is impeccable, and I've learned much about the ancient world and different cultures without even realizing I'm learning. Through her stories, I visit and enjoy the countries she writes about. But above all are the characters she creates, characters whom I care about and don't want to put the book down until I've found out what happened to them. By the end of the book, I don't want to say goodbye. And I'm eagerly awaiting Tracy's next release.
